About

Quiet Skies NorCal is a regional organization dedicated to reducing the impact of jet noise on residents’ lives.

Our ranks include aviation professionals and enthusiasts, engineers and scientists, community activists, business leaders, and just about anyone who’s willing to contribute. We rely heavily on support from grassroots organizations that have come together in response to this jet noise crisis. Practically all of the people involved in Quiet Skies NorCal are also engaged in such organizations, and so this is their second non-paying job, and their time and effort is doubly appreciated.

Our Mission

To bring together the FAA, airports, airlines and the affected public and develop solutions for decreasing the impact of jet noise on residents’ lives. For more details, see our Mission Statement page.

Our Goals

  • Undo the increase in noise impact that accompanied the transition to the NextGen Metroplex airspace design
  • Decrease the noise impact of legacy airspace design
  • Create an ongoing working relationship with the FAA, airports and airlines in order to maintain our quality of life.

Our Approach

  • Educate and inform the FAA about the noise abatement requirements of NorCal communities
  • Educate and inform the public about the FAA’s roles and constraints
  • Find ways to use FAA’s NextGen technology in order to reduce noise impact
  • Work with all stakeholders and develop community-driven solutions for noise problems.

Our History

Quiet Skies NorCal grew out of a regional summit meeting held on Jan 16, 2016.

The impetus for the meeting was the realization that addressing a regional problem with an agglomeration of municipal-level organizations was not effective, and as a result of that meeting we received the support of Rep. Anna Eshoo and Sam Farr for the development of a regional solution set for the noise problems that accompanied the transition to the NextGen Metroplex design.

We are looking forward to presenting the solution set to the FAA, and working with them on its implementation.
